Acclaimed by Le Monde as a “miracle of vocal firmness” and a “soprano voice that shines like the morning sun of Provence” (Der Tagesspiegel), Mariangela Sicilia has achieved immense critical and public success at numerous prestigious opera houses and international festivals, including the Opéra national de Paris, Teatro Real de Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Salzburg Festival, Sydney Opera House, Dutch National Opera, and Opéra de Monte-Carlo, as well as Les Chorégies d’Orange, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Royal Opera House Muscat, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, and Arena di Verona. She has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Leonardo García Alarcón, Sir Mark Elder, Asher Fisch, Riccardo Frizza, Daniele Gatti, Francesco Lanzillotta, Michele Mariotti, Stefano Montanari, Riccardo Muti, Myung-Whun Chung, Daniel Oren, Antonio Pappano, Donato Renzetti, Daniele Rustioni, and Alberto Zedda, and with directors including Robert Carsen, Rosetta Cucchi, Hugo De Ana, Denis Krief, Gabriele Lavia, Davide Livermore, Terry Gilliam, David McVicar, Damiano Michieletto, Jonathan Miller, Chiara Muti, Stefano Poda, and Sir Graham Vick. In the 2023/24 season, Mariangela made her debut at Teatro alla Scala as Magda in a new production of La rondine conducted by Riccardo Chailly.She also sang Rachel in La Juive at Teatro Regio di Torino, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and Mimì in La bohème at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Macerata Opera Festival. On the concert stage, she performed Verdi’s Requiem with the Human Rights Orchestra under Alessio Allegrini and Bruckner’s Te Deum at the Arena di Verona with Pinchas Steinberg. Other operatic highlights include Mimì (La bohème) at the Sydney Opera House, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Bolshoi Theatre, and Deutsche Oper Berlin; Violetta (La traviata) at Teatro di San Carlo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Royal Opera House Muscat, and Deutsche Oper Berlin; Desdemona (Otello) at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Teatro Verdi di Trieste; Micaëla (Carmen) at Teatro Regio di Torino and Arena di Verona; Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at Teatro Regio di Torino and Teatro Massimo di Palermo; Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at Teatro Regio di Parma and Royal Opera House Muscat; Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma; Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and Palau de la Reina Sofía in Valencia; Teresa (Benvenuto Cellini) at the Dutch National Opera and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma; and Adina (L’elisir d’amore) at Teatro Regio di Torino, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and the Macerata Opera Festival. Mariangela Sicilia refined her technique under the guidance of Maestro Fernando Cordeiro Opa, having previously studied with soprano Carmela Remigio and Maestro Leone Magiera. She further specialized in her repertoire at the Mozart Academy of the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro. She won third prize at the 2014 Operalia competition in Los Angeles. Mariangela recorded the role of Vivetta in the world’s first commercial DVD and Blu-Ray recording of Cilea’s L’arlesiana, released by the Dynamic label in 2013.
