Sofia Colabella

Dr Sofia Colabella is an architect and Lecturer in Construction Technology in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning of the University of Melbourne. She is the co-founder of ‘Gridshell.it’, a company specialised in the design and construction of timber special structures, and of ‘CMMKM Architecture and Design’, an architecture practice based in Italy, and focussed on applying sustainability concepts to contemporary living. In 2016-2017, as visiting Scientific Partner employed at the ‘Structural Xploration Lab’, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), she developed a novel approach on the feasibility of reuse of discarded high-tech sports equipment for architecture. She has worked as Casual Lecturer at the University of Naples Federico II. In 2020, she got the ABP Engagement Excellence Award (University of Melbourne), and in 2019, the bronze medal at the Tongji Construction Festival (Shanghai). She is member of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) and is a member of the Hangai Prize committee 2020.
